Secret London is quite the most interesting guidebook I have had the chance to pick up in years. Uncovering nearly 250 hidden places in London, most of which I had never heard about having lived in the capital all my life, this really is a book to take you places where you’ve never been.

Dividing London up into nine main areas, the book recommends hidden crypts and prison cells (Newgate Cells, a Masonic temple); forgotten memorials, sculptures and art works (Jean Cocteau murals, The Bread Basket Boy at St. Pauls); small undiscovered cultural gems (the Foundling and Geffrye Museums); and London’s quirkiest cafes and restaurants for those of you happy to take the risk and try something new.

Suitable for the tourist or resident, Secret London is a fascinating and easy-to-use book that gives a real sense of the scale of London’s hidden history. Other books in the series include Secret Amsterdam, Secret Barcelona, Secret Paris, Secret Provence, Secret Rome, Secret Brussels.
